Only a single sound designer had worked on the previous BioShock ' s lauded sound, which Kamper called "intimidating"; "we were all basically coming into the project as fans of the first game. Kamper, in turn, gave his team freedom to use whatever software they wanted to create and manipulate sounds, not wanting to limit their creativity. The setting of BioShock 2 ten years after the first game established the sonic atmopshere.
In addition to lots of creaking and groaning sounds to accentuate the setting's disrepair, Kamper and the audio team added non-diegetic sounds that grow in frequency the closer the player gets to the end of the game to convey the mounting insanity of the Splicers. The Big Sister's sound effects were created by layering sounds from birds, hyenas, and Kamper's wife doing impressions of a dolphin. The audio team spent a great deal of time on immersing the player in their role of a Big Daddy through the audio—everything from the sound of the footsteps to the sounds for impacts and water drips on the player's armor was used to sell the player on who their character was.
Audio programmer Guy Somberg created a background sound system that allowed the team to layer stereo sounds together depending on the player's location, combined with mono sound effects for certain areas. Multiplayer sounds were handled by Digital Extremes, who along with Kamper's team had to make sure their sounds cohered not only with each other's work, but with the sounds of the first game.
He wrote that "scoring a sequel to a major hit game is always a challenge," and the praise his BioShock score received made things even more difficult. He decided to retain some elements and motifs from the first game—use of the solo violin, and compositional techniques common in the midth century setting—while creating something different. Which in some respects surpasses my original in my opinion. Once the game's tone and style was established, Schyman worked off specific requests from the audio director for individual pieces of music.
The results, such as the music for the Pauper's Drop level, were different from anything else in the first game. To test how the music fit for each level, Kamper would send Schyman video footage of the game, which would then be appraised with the new score to see how well it meshed.
In addition to the original music, BioShock 2 makes extensive use of licensed music from the time period. Music from BioShock was used in the multiplayer portion of BioShock 2 to help connect it back to the time period of the first game. In contrast to the first BioShock ' s focus on libertarianism and Ayn Rand's philosophies, BioShock 2 focuses on collectivist ideals. Professor Ryan Lizardi draws parallels between BioShock 2 ' s themes of community versus the individual and the issues of McCarthyism and the hippie movement that occurred around the time period of the game's setting.
A smaller limited edition, titled BioShock 2 Rapture Edition , was officially announced on December 2, Its contents are the game and a smaller, page art book, packaged together in a special slipcover. As with the Special Edition, the Rapture Edition was limited to a single production run.
The standalone version of the remastered version as well as The Collection was released on the Nintendo Switch on May 29, Gamasutra state a possible reason for the Xbox 's greater sales was the original BioShock ' s month exclusivity on the platform. BioShock 2 was supported post-launch with patches and technical fixes, as well as new downloadable content DLC for its single player and multiplayer modes. It added new player characters, cosmetics, and a multiplayer level increase.
Also released alongside the Rapture Metro Pack were additional characters and a new game mode. It is a single-player campaign with a plot completely separate from that of the main campaign. The campaign adds three new levels and provides deeper insight into Rapture's inner workings. In addition, Minerva's Den was released for free for players who owned BioShock 2 before the patch.
BioShock 2 received "generally favorable" reviews, according to review aggregator Metacritic , with a weighted average score of 88 out of across its released platforms. GamesRadar 's Charlie Barratt awarded the game with a perfect score stating that "The weapons are better. The plasmids are better. The enemies are better. At some points, even the storytelling is better. What's most amazing and surprising about BioShock 2 , however, is that by diving deeper into Rapture's tortured history and exploring more of Rapture's haunted world, it actually manages to make the original BioShock better, too.
Game Informer ' s Andrew Reiner scored the game an 8. He criticised the game for being too similar to its predecessor, saying that "For roughly 10 hours, BioShock 2 follows directly in its forefather's footsteps, too fearful to inject anything new into this twisted world. It takes 10 hours to get there, but the final two acts lasting approximatetely three hours are brilliant.
Sofia Lamb among top ten female villains in video games, stating that "an extremist obsessed with the "greater good," Lamb will sacrifice anything and anyone for her own agenda; whether that means brainwashing or murdering to create her utopia, she's down. IGN scored the game a 9. It's a game in which story, setting, and gameplay are expertly blended to create an experience that's as thought-provoking as it is entertaining.
In a round-table style video chat, IGN editors said that Rapture was less mysterious because players have seen it before, and that was a major strike against the game. Since the original had such an eerie mysterious feel to it, the twists and turns seen in the sequel seemed less surprising. Tom Price of TeamXbox gave the game an overall score of 9. Eurogamer 's Tom Bramwell was more critical of BioShock 2. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

A conservative return to Rapture, but full of quality. BioShock 2 sets out to make a name for itself, and overall it does. It improves on the original's gameplay while telling two different stories across modes. The experience isn't as powerful at the end, but the Little Sister bond makes up for that. The surprises aren't there and neither is the awe one feels the first time they booted-up their copy of BioShock and laid eyes on Rapture.

On the Survivor hardest difficulty mode in the first game I couldn't make it Playing this game actually made me better at BioShock 1. On the Survivor hardest difficulty mode in the first game I couldn't make it past finding the first plasmid since I would just keep getting outflanked by splicers and shot in the back of the head but now I am cruising through and I am maxed out on med kits and EVE hypos I think because Bioshock 2 forced me to prepare more carefully in the scenarios where you have to defend little sisters while they are getting EVE from corpses.
I really wish I had a webcam so I could put on Youtube the first time I defended a little sister successfully in Bioshock 2 because I did it on the hardest dificulty level with only the wrench, rivet gun, electricity plasmid and no med kits I just kept getting wrench headshots on splicers which I had bottlenecked in a doorway.
The next time I successfully defended a little sister on the first attempt just by using the hypnotize enrage plasmid on all the splicers and they just all killed each other for me. Something about the gameplay in Bioshock 2 just seems to make more sense to me than it did in the first game, but it's clearly applicable to how you approach the first game.
I think the thing is that Bioshock 2 is a little more obvious about how it forces you to visualize how you are going to approach encounters; maybe it just gives more obvious clues than the first game did. Or maybe Bioshock 2 just isn't as good at keeping its secrets as the first game; either way I feel like I understand and love both games much more now than I would have expected and I can't believe I was actually on the fence about buying this game or Dante's Inferno last weekend!
Great game but i played bioshock 1 and Bioshock 2 become for me good game but not ideal as 1. Singleplayer is good not more. Also, Multiplayer Great game but i played bioshock 1 and Bioshock 2 become for me good game but not ideal as 1. Also, Multiplayer is very cool, i find many problems as ballistic, i can't forget it for new weapon, new plasmids, skills ang game types from this game as capture the sister, civil war an order.
My advice - bioshock 2 need buy! Bioshock 2 is by far my favorite game in the franchise. It adds a new and unique narrative arc while allowing the player to remain immersed in Bioshock 2 is by far my favorite game in the franchise.
It adds a new and unique narrative arc while allowing the player to remain immersed in Rapture. I really liked playing as a Big Daddy; I found the weapons to be much more usable than they were in Bioshock. To anyone considering this game, I have two words, buy it! It's worth the money. Although some of the initial sense of amazement may not be as strong the second time around, but the game does a good job of getting you back on track. You pick up 10 years after the events of the first game as a prototype Big Daddy.
The perks are that you can dual wield a weapon and a plasmid now. And if you ever wanted to know what it would be like to take out splicers as a BD, then you are in luck. Another big change is that hacking machines is no longer a pipe laying mini game, but more of a real time rhythm game and you can shoot remote hacking darts as well.
Whats really new and great is the addition of online multi-player. This gives you a brand new challenge that the first game never had. If you liked the first on e, and want more, this is it. With DLC already announced, this is a fun game. Get it on ebay for a decent price and you won't be disappointed. This game is great. I love the 's art deco theme. Like most first person shooters this game has lots of action, monsters, and different weapons.
However to me the best thing about this game is the artwork, and storyline. The game takes place in an abandoned underwater city. The levels in this game are beautiful; each different part of this game is full of tons of interesting details. There is also allot of interesting commentary, and voiceovers. I would defiantly recommend this game.
First, a confession. I thought BS 2 was a mistake. As much as I liked the first, I worried about the possibility of a sequel. Though I longed to experience another game with that level of mature, masterful storytelling and with that number of unique, unusual ideas, I seriously doubted such brilliance could be captured again.
While I desperately wished to revisit the haunting underwater dystopia of Rapture, I suspected that doing so would ruin, or at least diminish, the thematic significance of the initial trip. To me, BioShock was one-of-a-kind. Well, you know what? I was wrong. Somehow, with less than three years of development time and without the direct involvement of creator Ken Levine, the BioShock team has pulled off another masterpiece.
One that gives the player devastating new power, but balances that with devastating new fear. One that takes chances and makes changes, but almost always for the better. For example… Being Big Daddy Casting the protagonist as a Big Daddy is not just a gimmick, either — the game fully immerses you in the role of the towering, stomping, clobbering monster.
Each footstep produces a crunching echo. Each turn of the head sways edges of your diving helmet into view. Each painful hit from an enemy unleashes a wailing, otherworldly moan from deep within your unseen body. Water blurs your visor and steam leaves a lasting fog upon the glass.
And those are just the normal ones. Her hype is justified. You will dread encountering the Big Sisters and the designers know it. Rescue or harvest a Little Sister and you enter yourself in a dangerous lottery. Sometimes, nothing will happen. On its own, BioShock 2 is a pretty good game. Admittedly the plot in the first game sometimes needed repeated viewing so I could fully get it.

Start rolling the Research Camera on one bot while it's killing the splicer and then shoot at it with one of the rapid fire weapons like the machine gun or the rivet gun. This should yield research points per bot and there's no risk involved.
Note: The fire ammo for the shotgun incurs massive bonuses for research, so zapping a Splicer and then hitting it with a few rounds repeatedly can yield up to research points depending on which Splicer and which research tonics one is using. There are a total of six endings in Bioshock 2. Perform the actions below to achieve the various endings:. Harvested all little sisters that you dealt with, and killed at least one of the following: Grace Holloway, Stanley Poole, or Gilbert Alexander. Hack the machine and intentionally hit a red spot to call in enemy bots, immediately turn and Snap the camera on one, then shut them down at the panel.
The now disabled bot is still highlighted by the research camera and you can splice and dice in researching ease. A perfect location for this is at the end of Pauper's Drop just before getting back on the train. Forward and left from the train is an aid station next to a shutdown panel inside a small office with a window. You can hack the Health station and snap the camera through the window then disable the bots before they can even get a shot off.
Just don't hack the health on your way into the level and be careful with your aim because you may destroy the aid station. When you hack a vending machine, stop the needle in the blue section for free ammo or a free eve. When you hack a health station with the same strategy to get a first-aid kit. When security bots appear after an alarm is triggered, hack them and they will stick around and fight for you. You may want to stun them with an electric attack first.
When you fight a Rumbler -- the Big Daddy with rockets -- use telekinesis to grab the rockets it fires and turn them back towards it for an easy victory. You can use Telekinesis to pull normal items toward you without using any of your EVE reserve. By choosing the former, you can help your adopted Little Sister continue her rounds, earning a nice ADAM bonus in the process, but you're really only delaying the big decision.
Do you choose to be selfish and harvest her? Or will you choose to be selfless and rescue her from her ghoulish condition? Each choice offers a different degree of ADAM as reward, but no matter what you decide, sooner or later Big Sister is going to catch up with you.
These grown-up Little Sisters have been retrofitted with armor inspired by their guardians, and they are fast, powerful, and angry at you for messing with their pseudo siblings. With enough ADAM at your disposal, you can spend it splicing up your DNA with plasmids to gain access to psychokinetic powers, such as the ability to throw fireballs, generate decoys that draw enemy fire, or shoot bees from your hands.
You can also purchase gene tonics to enhance yourself with a wide variety of passive traits like faster movement speed, immunity to electrical damage, or quieter footsteps. Your combat options aren't strictly limited to genetic mutations, however, because there is an extensive arsenal of more traditional projectile weaponry for you to find as well.
Each gun you find can dish out some serious damage to marauding splicers, from the bolt-launching rivet gun and the shoulder-mounted launcher to the. Each gun also has multiple types of ammunition that you can switch between depending on the situation. As you journey deeper into Rapture, you'll have opportunities to upgrade both your guns and your plasmids, and there's a much greater sense of improvement this time around. Plasmids gain secondary and tertiary abilities, and weapons receive bonuses, such as the power to zap and stun foes with electricity.
Much like its predecessor, BioShock 2 is slower and more methodical than your average shooter, but combat feels much more natural and effective than it ever did before. Most noticeably, you now duel-wield plasmids and guns, which allows you to dish out damage using both simultaneously or keep up an active defense with one hand and an offense with the other. Though setting traps was a useful tactic in BioShock, there are more compelling reasons to do so now because many more high-profile encounters are player initiated.
Setting down an adopted Little Sister to guzzle ADAM, for example, summons a horde of splicers looking for a fix, and fortifying your position with proximity mines or trap rivets can take you a long way toward weathering the storm. When dealing with roving packs of splicers, there are often a number of ways to approach each battle.
If you're short of patience and have plenty of health, you can rush in guns blazing and hope for the best. If you're a bit stealthier, you can catch your foes unawares and take them out before they even realize it. You can also promote infighting with the security command and hypnotize plasmids or even hack security cameras or sentry turrets for extra help the Pipe Dream hacking minigame is gone and replaced by a much more streamlined version.
Finally, the research camera returns in video recorder format--simply set the camera rolling and eliminate your enemies on tape to learn new abilities over time all while experimenting with different attack combinations to keep things fresh. This new setup is easier to use than the previous method, but you've got to juggle your weapons around because the camera must be temporarily equipped in place of a gun to activate it, which can be distracting during a firefight.
Rapture is an underwater city full of wonder and amazement that is steeped heavily in the architectural styling of the art deco movement. The entire city is a monument to the ego--specifically Andrew Ryan's ego--which is a notion so contradictory to the guiding principles of Lamb and her Family that they find it necessary to desecrate it at every turn. The cryptic messages about rebirth and their accompanying butterfly motifs that are found everywhere greatly add to the haunting atmosphere of Rapture.
At the other end of the spectrum are the bright and cheery crayon-drawn messages that Eleanor leaves you like a trail of breadcrumbs, each of which warms the heart. But when you see them in the context of their surroundings, they are creepy and disturbing.
Rapture is a dark, dismal world that envelopes you with a blanket of isolation--excellent art direction, a great soundtrack, and a fantastic voice cast all team up with a powerful story to create an atmosphere so thick and intense that it is at times downright chilling. Besides its to hour-long single-player campaign, BioShock 2 also features a fun and entertaining story-based multiplayer mode set during the fall of Rapture.
As one of a handful of pre-insanity splicers, you've joined the Sinclair Solutions Consumer Rewards Program for self-defense to test experimental weapons and plasmids in the war between Andrew Ryan and his archenemy Atlus.
Most multiplayer matches support up to 10 players, and they're much faster paced than the single-player game--so much so that it'll likely take you a while to get accustomed to it. With maps set in familiar, albeit less ruined, locales from the first BioShock, multiplayer features seven game modes that are takes on standard shooter multiplayer types. Capture the Sister, for example, involves carrying around a crying, screaming, and angry Little Sister for as long as possible before you're killed and she's kidnapped by another player.
In other modes, you can become a lumbering Big Daddy if you happen to find a suit lying around or are picked at random. Multiplayer matches are fun and challenging, and this unorthodox addition to BioShock 2 can breathe additional longevity into the game. Rapture is a haunting and atmospheric place under the sea. All players have a persistent rank based on the amount of ADAM they've earned by winning matches and completing secondary objectives like hacking turrets, booby-trapping vending machines, or taking creeper photos of the bodies of their fallen enemies which has the side effect of granting you a damage bonus against that player.
Your rank determines which weapons, plasmids, and gene tonics are accessible, and you organize these into one of three loadouts you can select before a match begins or between respawns. Loadouts can and should be customized for different situations, and while you're dead, it's possible to check out what combinations the other players are using. Reaching certain ranks also earns you new voice recordings left by the multiplayer characters themselves, which provide their intriguing insights into the civil war and their downfall into madness.
Andrew Ryan dreamt of a world where his fellow man could endlessly pursue self-happiness and self-fulfillment, so he chose the impossible--a city beneath the oceans. When given the opportunity, the citizens of Rapture chose self-destruction in their selfish and twisted pursuits of his ideals. Precisely what you choose to do when you are beholden only to yourself and your own moral constraints is the backbone of BioShock 2.
Rapture may not be as mysterious and intriguing this second time around, but it is nonetheless host to a powerful and moving tale that allows you to better realize--or pervert--Ryan's principles at your own discretion. Regardless of whether or not this is a return visit to paradise lost, there is plenty to be found here to make it a worthwhile, meaningful, and compelling one.
